The Lion King Teaser Broke a Disney Record

By Flora  /  26 Nov 2018 (Monday)

Hakuna Matata! The video was viewed nearly 225 million times within 24 hours, not taking in the reproduction of videos that were circulating online around the same time.

If you watch Disney’s teaser for ‘The Lion King’ that was released last Thursday, you are probably still reeling in the nostalgia from that 93-second video, which was viewed 224.6 million times within its first 24 hours, setting a new record for Disney!

While many questioned the ‘live-action’ element as most of the scenes featured are all CGI, there were many who also praised the live-action film for matching up classic opening of the 1994 original.

Directed by Jon Favreau, the voice cast includes Beyoncé as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mother Sarabi, John Oliver as Zazu, John Kani as Rafiki, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, Eric André as Azizi, and Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa, respectively.

Favreau also directed 2016’s live-action update of “The Jungle Book,” that starred Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, Bill Murray and Neel Sethi.

The Lion King will release InCinemas July 2019.
