After a hunting expedition 20,000 years ago in Europe during the Upper Paleolithic period goes wrong, a yong caveman thought to have parished during the hunt is left for dead. He must now learn how to survive the harsh wilderness and find his way home while avoiding other predators. He reluctantly adopts a lone injured wolf abandoned by its pack. The unlikely pair learn to rely on one another, enduring countless dangers and overwhelming odds to find their way home before the deadly winter arrives.
