A Journey with an Elephant in New ‘Pop Aye’ Trailer!

By Flora  /  16 Jan 2017 (Monday)

In the first trailer of Kirsten Tan’s debut feature film, we see the longing relationship between a man and an elephant, and the arduous journey they take across the country. The old saying in the filmmaking industry is to avoid working with children or animals as they can be very unpredictable on-set… And who would have thought, a ginormous elephant that weighs well over 2000kg co-stars in a movie - written and directed by a Singaporean filmmaker, no less.

There are so many questions that pop up in one’s mind when watching the trailer, in terms of the technicality, the casting, and just really, how does one direct an elephant? The rather grim humour is a fascinating touch to the tone of the movie as well.

In addition, POP AYE is up for several awards including the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, World Cinema Directing Award and the Audience Prize!

[Synopsis]
On a chance encounter, a disenchanted architect bumps into his long-lost elephant on the streets of Bangkok. Excited, he takes his elephant on a redemptive journey across Thailand, in search of the farm where they grew up together.
