Women In Action - Upcoming Action Movies with Female Leads
By
InCinemas
/
07 Jul 2018 (Saturday)
Get ready for more badass ladies kicking butt and taking names on the big screen. Just this year alone, we have already seen many female-fronted action thrillers like ‘Tomb Raider’, ‘Red Sparrow’, and ‘Ocean’s 8’. Even in superhero movies like ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Deadpool 2’, female characters are at the centre of the action because somehow, it’s just so satisfying to see women be in the forefront of action movies.
Here’s more women showing their acting ‘chops’ that we can all get excited about. (Our sincere apologies to other non-ass kicking babes from ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’ and ‘Mary Poppins Returns’!)

Ant-Man And The Wasp
(Now Showing)
Finally it’s here! Marvel’s first female superhero lead sharing the same (equal) limelight as her male counterpart. In fact, not only does her character have title billing, her character is poised to have a larger stake in upcoming Marvel movies. It’s about time, we say!
The Spy Who Dumped Me
(Opens 2 August)
Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon gets unwittingly thrown into the world of international espionage, serving up lots of laughs together with sizzling action.
Trivia: This is a rare action comedy movie that is directed by a woman too.
Peppermint
(Opens 6 September)
Jennifer Garner back in the action genre after ‘Alias’ TV series and ‘Elektra’. A revenge thriller best described as ‘John Wick’, but with a lady avenging the deaths of her husband and daughter.
Halloween
(Opens 18 October)
Jamie Lee Curtis, who is arguably the queen of the Scream Queens in horror, reprises her iconic role as Laurie Strode to confront Michael Myers one last time.
The Girl In The Spider’s Web
(Opens 6 November)
Claire Foy, previously played by Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara, stars as the goth hacker Lisbeth Salander. In this instalment, Libeth and reporter Mikael Blomkvist will team up once again to face off against a criminal organization that calls itself The Spider Society.
Widows
(Opens 6 December)
Four widowed women plan to finish a heist job their dead husbands failed to complete. That’s all we know about the plot and that’s fine, especially considering the exceptional strong leads, Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, and many more. This fierce female criminal team has our vote.
Mortal Engines
(Opens 13 December)
This post-apocalyptic ‘cities on wheels’ sci-fi movie centres on Hester Shaw (played by Hera Hilmar) as she battles for her survival as her small town is being pursued by London.
Alita: Battle Angel
(Opens 20 December)
Produced by James Cameron, Rosa Salazar stars as Alita, an amnesia cyborg must solve the secrets of her past and discover the truth of who she really is, while she works as a bounty hunter.
(All release dates are for Singapore, and is subject to change)
