The popular American sitcom television series, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, is about to get a dramatic reboot!

The reboot will be based on a viral video that reimagined the NBC comedy series as a drama titled Bel-Air. The fan-made film made its debut last year and has racked up over five million views on YouTube alone was written and directed by Morgan Cooper.

Cooper is attached to co-write and direct the upcoming project and will also serve as a co-executive producer alongside the OG Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith. Smith will executive produce via Westbrook Studios along with Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, and original series creators Andy and Susan Borowitz.

Watch the inspiration for this reboot below:

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air aired on NBC for six seasons from 1990 to 1996. The show also starred James Avery, Janet Hubert, Alfonso Ribeiro, Karyn Parsons, Tatyana M. Ali, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, and Ross Bagley.

The show was responsible for catapulting Smith to superstardom as an actor. He went on to become one of Hollywood's most well-known A-listers with a movie career that included blockbusters such as Independence Day, the Men in Black and Bad Boys franchises, and I Am Legend to name a few. Most recently, Smith starred in the live-action reboot of Disney’s Aladdin and re-teamed with Martin Lawrence for a third installment of Bad Boys.

NBC's streaming service Peacock has picked up Bel-Air for two seasons. Smith announced the serialized one-hour dramatic reimagining of the 90’s sitcom finally found a home in a recent YouTube video he uploaded to his channel.
