Singapore, 9 June, 2011 – As part of its exciting and diverse line-up of film activities, ScreenSingapore will be showcasing a special screening of THE BULLY PROJECT, a highly acclaimed documentary feature, on 11 June 2011, the penultimate day of the inaugural ScreenSingapore. Directed by Sundance and Emmy-award winning filmmaker, Lee Hirsch, The Bully Project is an insightful and moving examination of bullying and its long term impact that with hope, will serve as a call to action against abuse of students by their peers.

“We are honored that The Weinstein Company has chosen ScreenSingapore to showcase THE BULLY PROJECT. Singapore is the first territory outside of the United States to screen this groundbreaking and poignant film, and this highlights our efforts to create an extensive and relevant film event for Singapore and the region,” says Greg Coote, Chairman of the Board of ScreenSingapore.

“The Bully Project is a film that is close to all of our hearts, highlighting an issue of global relevance.  Having it seen by the widest and broadest possible audience has been our priority from the start,” shared Harvey Weinstein, Co-Chairman, The Weinstein Company.  “We are very grateful to our friends at ScreenSingapore for giving us the opportunity to showcase the film at their inaugural event.”

The documentary, which follows five kids and families in America over the course of a school year, offers insight into the cruel and painful world of the bullied children. Stories include two families who have lost children to suicide and a mother awaiting the fate of her 14-year-old daughter who has been incarcerated after bringing a gun on her school bus. The Bully Project examines the consequences of bullying through the testimony of strong and courageous youth and through the power of their stories, the film aims to change the way the society deals with bullying.
