The movie feels like a dramatic scene out from a script. A top Hong Kong A-lister movie actor, Michael Lau (Louis Koo) meets an ordinary girl next door, Sue (Sammi Cheng). She happens to be a big fan of Michael, and falls in love under the perfect snowy weather.
Overall, I felt the pace of the show pretty slow, as their relationship was 'romantically draggy'. Michael is publicly rejected and turns to alcohol to drown his sorrows. He escapes to Sue's Shangri-la hotel, the nice getaway place to experience the scenic view of Mother Nature. Sue then helps Michael with his alcohol problems, but keeps to herself when it comes to her husband who was lost in the dense forest for nearly seven years.
It's exciting to see how the story unfolds for the second half of the show. Sue, being a fan, changes the plot and thus getting you emotional and feeling for her. The loss, pain and desperation that Sammi Cheng brought was definitely a commendable job. Her portrayal of Sue, the crazy-happy business owner who longs for the return of her husband gives the film a much more in depth meaning of love and return. Towards the end when she catches the film (her story that is remade into a movie), her tears and fear of reality is such a moving sight as she struggles between whether to leave the cinema, or to stay and watch, and to accept reality.
It's a rather romantic piece of movie for couples and lovers to watch, enjoy and reminisce together. Of course, watching it with friends will give you the same experience that you long for. It's always a joy watching Hong Kong's top actors blooming on screen. Not forgetting the conversations between Louis Koo and Sammi Cheng are mostly in Cantonese (with subtitles), giving the movie its authenticity in the development of their love-hate relationship.
